December 5, 2010: You've reached the definitive site on the Twelve-String Guitar ... from its history to its players, the 12-String has a vast musical presence from its earliest days to today. The 12-String Guitar has been used to good effect in all styles of music, Country to Rock ... American Primitive Guitar to Folk ... the 12-String has many avid exponents such as: Leo Kottke, Stefan Grossman, The Eagles, Moody Blues, Glen Campbell, Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Page, Poco, The Bryds, Fred Gerlach ... to name only a few ...

My very first guitar was a Decca 12-String ... I studied and learned how to play with this guitar (pictured right). Decca was, at the time, a record label. They had a company manufacture guitars for them out of Japan and they distributed through larger department stores. I struggled with this guitar for my first years on the instrument in the '70s as a kid of 16 years ... One of the first songs I learned on the 12-String was Pink Floyd's "The Narrow Way" off the Umma Gumma album. I then sat through most of my high school years sitting by the record player learning tunes from the "6 & 12-String" Album by Leo Kottke with the Armadillo cover. 12-String Guitar has entranced me on too many levels to count — Be sure to take a listen to the 2010 CD release dedicated to this cannon of an instrument titled:

This site is dedicated to Jerry Loggins ... he first originated 12stringguitar.com and had a wonderful offering of everything 12-string along with some great resources on Fred Gerlach. I was working directly with Jerry and offered my videos and free 12-string guitar instruction ... oddly. he seemed to disappear and let the domain name go which fell into the hands of a domain reseller. If I remember right, Jerry's motto was "12-String Power" and he proved that well with the really cool videos and 12-string resources he offered up. Here's to you Jerry ... hope you're still playing your 12 and 18-string guitars.

May 10, 2006 - Jerry Loggins says he's barely played a six-string guitar since 1975 when he first picked up a 12-string. Growing up in a musical family, Loggins has been playing since he was about five years old.

Loggins fronts the revival band Drifters/Coasters and recieved a bit of airplay in Los Angeles in the '70s with the song 'Rainy Daze.' He currently lives in the mountians outside Tehachapi, Ca. by himself, where he says he's developing a boogie-woogie style for 12 and 18-string guitar.
