Hi Mickey,
Traded my receiver I don't use anymore for a rather cheap but fair 12-string guitar. Do you use cross picking mostly on it or finger picking with metal finger picks like on the dobro?
Thanks much,
Your friend and progressing student
Jack M.

Finally conquered red-haired boy today and smoothing it out tomorrow and over the weekend starting on the next lesson and hopefully will be finishing this second DVD next week and get down to some serious practice. I have been using my XM radio receiver on the Bluegrass channel 14 and trying to accompany and pull a few runs and licks. Keeps me humble and honest! (smile)

Greetings Jack,

Wow! 12-String Guitar ... it seems you are paralleling my interests in a timely fashion.

I have both 12stringguitar.com and 12-stringguitar.com ... and am in the middle of building a new dedicated website to the 12-string. I mean, a really comprehensive site that will cover everything to do with the 12-String Guitar. The technique, history and players will all be covered extensively ... similar to what I've been doing with the ragtimeguitar.com site. 12-String Guitar was my very first instrument. And, I've always had an affinity for the instrument ever since. I'll send you my CD that's nearing completion ... "12-String Drawings from the Acoustic Forest" (upon its release). I believe you'll enjoy it.

Good to hear you're now back into it yourself ...

In answer to your questions:

1. Yes ... I have crosspicked the 12-string ... such as on the 6 & 12-String Banjo Intro DVD with the song: Loch Lavan Castle. So, really, both the Guitar Crosspicking Technique book and Introduction to the 6 & 12-String Banjo DVD are applicable to the 12-string acoustic guitar.

2. However, I mostly fingerpick the 12-string with metal fingerpicks. I can attain a great drive with this approach ... and, of course, the dynamics, from soft to loud are easily attained with fingerpicks.

Great to hear how well you're advancing through the DVDs.

Your friend and progressing teacher,

Mickey Cochran
